Last week we held a Swedish schnapps and food party. The guests were enjoying a curse of five dishes that can’t be found on the normal menu and five different shots of homespiced schnapps.

Some of the guests played live music and that together ith the food and drinks created a very cosy atmosphere.

Here is a few snapshots from the opening party we held for Gavin McCloskey’s collection of Nepalese Thangkas that will be hanging at KAFFESTUGAN the next few weeks.

Gavin held a very nice introduction to the art and history of thangkas and we provided hand drip coffee and home baked cookies.

We are very excited to present something totally different this time, Nepalese thangka paintings !

Opening night is Friday November 12th and there will be an introduction lecture on Thangkas at 8 PM by thangka collector Gavin McCloskey along with free coffee and some cookies.

Thangkas are beautiful Buddhist scroll paintings which generally show images of Buddhist deities or mandalas. Many thangkas use symbolism to represent important teachings of Buddhism, and may also be used in buddhist worship ceremonies.
They can also be appreciated in their own right as beautiful works of art, and are becoming increasingly popular with western collectors of asian art, with some antique thangkas fetching very high prices in auctions around the world.
Good thangkas are painted with an incredible level of precision and skill, often taking many months to complete, and are generally embellished lavishly with real gold. In this exhibition and talk, thangka collector and dealer, Gavin McCloskey, will give an introduction to the appreciation and understanding of this beautiful and meaningful art form, including tips on how to recognise good quality thangkas.
